Pregnancy naturally separates a mother's outermost abdominal muscles to make room for her growing uterus. Called a diastasis, this separation doesn't fully close up in 98 percent of new moms. The larger the diastasis, the weaker the muscles and the greater chance for mom to develop back problems down the road. Of perhaps greater concern for moms, new and veteran alike, the larger the diastasis, th...

Does your fundal height and pregnancy weight gain have any influence on babys weight?

I am 5ft 4", usually a size 10, and have gained 29 pounds in my pregnancy (now 40 weeks) and my fundal height is 39 cm... is there anyway to guess the babys weight or could it range completely from one end to the next?

If only that was the case evey one would know what the weight will be. I lost weight to start with and in the end I only gained about 7lb, and I measured a bit bigger than my dates. My son was 2 weeks late ans was 10lb 12.5oz.. So nothing other than when it comes out can you know hte weight, even growth scans are 10% either way on the weight they give you.

Good luck

Fully Effaced, 3cm Dilated?

Hi, I had a doctors appt yesterday and became quite concerned. This is my second pregnancy. Last week there was no cervical change...even though on average I was getting about 30-60 BH contractions per day. Well, yesterday it was 3cm dilated and fully effaced. How soon could it really be? Some people have mentioned it went weeks that way...but is that common for a second pregnancy? And I've lost my mucus plug (twice now)...at least most of it. Not bloody though. Just curious what others could see into this. Thanks a lot.
I will be 37 weeks tomorrow. This dilation occured very quickly. Last week i was a fingertip and long, thick uneffaced cervix. Suddenly 6 days later I am 3cm w/100% effacement. would that just start up so quickly and stop? I guess it would!

It could be 5 minutes from now that you start active labor or 2 weeks it is different with every woman and every pregnancy.

how far along are you ?

If you are 37 weeks plus you can encourage labor along by trying these things a few times over the next few days

Safe ways to naturally induce labor are

1. Have a warm bath to help you relax - the more tense you are the longer your body will fight off going into labor

2 Have sex - your husband needs to ejaculate inside of you and he needs to spend a lot of time playing with your nipples - nipple stimulation and a hormone in semen both help induce labor.

3. Lots and lots of walking - no more than an hour at a time (maybe 3 times a day) make sure you take water with you keep hydrated.

4. Eat some good food (thick soup, or a stew), and drink plenty of water - your body will refuse to labor if you are dehydrated.

Lastly do some deep breathing and meditating - your own mental state (being so anxious) can be a cause for your bodies lack of labor.

Good luck

One Missed Call (DVD)

One Missed Call (DVD)

$15.83

Takashi Miike, the director of such cult classics as the DEAD OR ALIVE trilogy, ICHI THE KILLER, and AUDITION, takes on the Japanese horror film with ONE MISSED CALL. Mixing in elements of Hideo Nakata`s THE RING and Takashi Shimizu`s JU-ON: THE GRUDGE, Miike creates a scarefest sure to rattle even the most experienced horror movie lover. Pop sensation Kou Shibasaki stars as Yumi Nakamura, a teenager who gets freaked out when her best friend, Yoko (Anna Nagata), gets a call on her cell phone--from herself, screaming, dated three days in the future. Three days later, at the exact time of the call--which had an ominous, strange ring tone--it all comes true, with Yoko screaming as she dies. The calls continue as Yumi`s friends fear that they will be next to hear the ring tone that foretells death. Meanwhile, Yumi is joined by Hiroshi (Shin`ichi Tsutsumi), whose sister was recently killed and who wants to get to the bottom of the mystery before more young women die. Miike masterfully manipulates the audience, with plenty of scares around each corner, lots of terrifying images, violently dizzying flash cutting, and creepy music by Koji Endo. ONE MISSED CALL is one scary movie that should not be missed.

induced with second baby?

I was induced with my first child had a 10 hour labour with no epidural and she was 10 pound 4! Im now looking at being overdue with the second baby. This pregnancy has been harder. I have a very swollen leg and foot to the point they thought i had a blood clot but tests found nothing and my blood pressure is fine, however it tingles and goes numb and putting it up only makes it worse. Im also worried about the size of this baby as i am measuring larger than my first. Do you think I would be ok to ask for an induction after my due date without going 10 days? the baby can only get bigger! and I know the swelling will go once Ive had the baby.

I dont see i problem with talking to your doctor about it. I'm sure if they thought it was unsafe they would let you know. good luck

Practical Guide to Acu-points

Practical Guide to Acu-points

$25.64

An understanding of acu-points is vital not only for acupuncturists but also for bodyworkers. This user-friendly manual contains current, comprehensive information for both groups, with special emphasis on how shiatsu and tuina therapists can best utilize "point knowledge" in their practice. Renowned experts Chris Jarmey and Ilaira Bouratinos use succinct text, a well-organized framework, and detailed color anatomical illustrations to clarify the complexities of acu-points. In keeping with normal practice, the authors give the precise anatomical location of a point and illustrate it with a dot, along with alternative locations where relevant. However, the book goes further by delineating the larger area where the point can be activated by pressure, gua sha, and other means. In addition, it explains the optimum physical position for treatment via acupuncture, acupressure, and other strategies, as treatment positions can vary according to the method of point stimulation. The book also documents the distribution of sensation resulting from point stimulation, and differentiates between pressure and needle application where appropriate. A Practical Guide to Acu-Points presents a wealth of carefully researched information equally valuable for professionals, students, and conscientious practitioners.

How much flying is safe during pregnancy?

There seems to be conflicting advice on the internet about flying regularly on long-haul routes whilst pregnant.

Many airlines say that crew members should stop straight away but some women don't test positive for several months of their pregnancy. I've also heard of some crew working during most of their pregnancy.

Are there any experts on here who know how much high altitude radiation is acceptable for pregnant cabin crew/flight attendants, pilots and frequent passengers? What are the effects on the baby?
I imagine that trans-arctic flights would get also more cosmic radiation than equatorial flights.
I can't stop working until I know for certain that I'm pregnant. I'm interested in what the effects/problems would be if it turns out that I've been working whilst pregnant.

Air carrier crews are occupationally exposed to ionizing radiation, principally from galactic cosmic radiation. To promote radiation safety in aviation the Federal Aviation Administration has: issued educational material on the nature of the radiation received during air travel; recommended radiation exposure limits for pregnant and nonpregnant aircrew members; developed computer programs that estimate for a given flight profile the amount of galactic radiation received on a current flight or on one flown at any time back to January 1958; published tables that enable aircrew members to estimate possible health risks associated with their occupational exposure to radiation; and conducted research on effects of radiation during pregnancy. References for this material are given in the article. In addition, graphic and tabular data in the article show how galactic radiation levels and the composition of the galactic radiation has changed between 1958 and 1999. Also given are estimates of effective doses received by air travelers on a wide variety of air carrier flights.

I want to be able to keep a daily blog where I can post an online (public or nonpublic) journal every day. I also want to be able to chat with other pregnant women. But I would very much like to have my own "page", kind of like on Myspace, but just for posting blogs and updates/journals. How to track ovulation preparation for Shettles Method conception?

My husband and i want to get pregnant next summer (in about a year). During the next year, I want to carefully monitor my cycle and track ovulation and possibly my basal temperature as well.

Should I use an online tracking program? (if so, which is the best?) or should I keep a notebook?

Also, any other additional tips/advice for tracking ovulation would be appreciated! We want to keep a detailed record since we plan on using the Shettles Method to conceive to increase our chances of having a baby of our preferred gender. I just finished reading "How to Choose the Sex of Your Baby" http://www.amazon.com/How-Choose-Sex-Your-Baby/dp/038548562X and it gives a lot of good tips but I'm eager to learn all I can!

Suggestions?

I will be doing that in the next couple of months(practice)
shettles method for a girl.

I actually will be using fertilityfriend.com to track my bbt's
and will be using it with the clear blue easy fertility monitor.
so I know when to have the perfect cut-off.

I have found tons of info on swaying for your desired gender
and ingender.com has helped me alot :)

good luck to me and you both :)

Students and instructors with an internet connection can visit www.MySearchLab.com and receive immediate access to thousands of full articles from the EBSCO ContentSelect database. In addition, MySearchLab offers extensive content on the research process itself–including tips on how to navigate and maximize time in the campus library, a step-by-step guide on writing a research paper, and instructions on how to finish an academic assignment with endnotes and bibliography.   Unlike other gender books, this one focuses equally on both men and women, drawing from the empirical research and conceptual discussions surrounding gender in the areas of psychology, sociology, anthropology, medicine, and public health. It reviews the research from multiple perspectives, but emphasizes the implications of social roles, status, and gender-related traits, particularly for relationships and health-areas that are central to readers' lives and that have a great impact on their day-to-day functioning. For individuals interested in the psychology of gender, gender roles, and women.

When we first started down the baby-making path, we thought we`d be pregnant in no time. We`d just toss out our birth control pills and before we knew it, we`d be rocking our little one to sleep. Little did we know what was in store for us, or the energy it would take to face all of the crazy, unpredictable and (sometimes) irrational emotions we felt along the way. Neither did our husbands. Sound familiar? If your idea of foreplay is screaming, "I`m ovulating; it`s time!!!" to your oblivious husband... If your ovulation schedule is ruling your life and every trip to the drug store includes a bulk purchase of pregnancy sticks... If you`re running out of answers to the chronic questioning from the pregnancy paparazzi about your plans for parenthood ... Then this is the book for you. Whether it`s been three months or three years since you`ve been trying, the more complicated and overwhelming the process becomes. The Conception Chronicles shares candid humor, hold-nothing-back banter and practical advice on everything that goes along with trying to start a family: from dealing with your fertile friends to the battery of tests you may have to face; from surviving "sex on demand" to navigating the ins and outs of high-tech fertility treatments. This book will guide you through the emotional journey to motherhood, offering compassion and laughter like only your best girlfriends can. And we promise you`ll never hear us say, "Relax and you`ll be pregnant in no time."
