is it safe to give wet heat on back to relive back pain in pregnant women.its 3 and a half month pregnancy?

actually my wife is pregnant. she had a back pain because she used to sit in a wrong posture during her studies. whenever i give her wet heat with the help of towel soaked in warm water n then little massage with medicted oil, she feels better. now the question which is worrying me is about the baby`s safety. is it safe to give wet heat on a back of my wife in pregnancy to relieve pain?

i was pregnant not too long ago. i also had those back pains. moist heat is fine and safe for baby, just make sure it's not very hot and don't use for longer that 10 minutes each time.

i am about 14 weeks pregnant and am running a fever.. what can happen to my baby and how do i get rid of it?

I am 14 weeks pregnant (barely started my second trimaster) and I have started to run a low fever.. To me, this does not seem good to my unborn baby.. by any chance, does anybody know what exactly can happen to my baby if the fever doesnt go down and what should i do to make my fever go away since medications is out of the question??

VERY important to not let that fever go up...you can take regular strength Tylenol (NOT Extra strength).

Take a lukewarm shower, stay hydrated, dress cool. When in doubt, call your dr!

Fever can hurt your baby. Don't know exactly what will happen, but that's what my doc told me during my pregnancy.

Adoption and Surrogate Pregnancy (Hardcover)

Adoption and Surrogate Pregnancy (Hardcover)

$41.75

Adoption and surrogate pregnancy are the two most realistic options currently available for millions of couples unable to have biological children. In the past decade, international adoption has become popular among those who wish to avoid the wait associated with adopting domestically. Yet because of unique political, economic, and cultural circumstances within individual countries, international adoption is fraught with legal controversies and difficulties. Surrogate pregnancy is a relatively new and inherently complicated alternative. With few regulations to guide the process and protect those involved, however, countries struggle to address its ethical and moral questions, in addition to the legal, political, cultural, and environmental ramifications.Providing a historic overview and defining the key issues, Adoption and Surrogate Pregnancy examines the laws related to adoption and surrogate pregnancy in five countries: the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, and Guatemala. The discussion covers the ways in which adoption and surrogate pregnancy overlap and influence each other, the nuances that further complicate matters, and the controversies surrounding both issues—such as fears of exploitation, class discrimination, socially "unwanted" children, same-sex parenthood, and the difficulties of governing the family unit. Allowing students to compare the subjects from the perspectives of different countries and cultures, this balanced and objective volume sheds light on the way these issues affect the global community.

Pregnancy and Flying...?

I'm 11 weeks pregnant and I will be flying to America (from UK) at the end of this week. Is it safe to fly? I have heard that it could cause me to spot, is this true? I had a tiny bit of spotting (literally once or twice) at 8 weeks pregnant and nothing since. Fingers crossed. Is there a possibility that I might miscarry if I fly? Also, are the metal detectors ok to walk through whilst pregnant?
Thanks for all your answers.

You are safe to travel by plane from the beginning of your pregnancy all the way up until the end portion of your last trimester (usually 9th month - 36 weeks) and can manage what ever kind of trip(s) you want to do as long as you and your pregnancy are healthy and the pregnancy is progressing normally. As long as everything is fine, air travel does NOT increase the risk of miscarriage or pre-term labor, and poses no other risks to you or your child.

It is the last four weeks (once you reach the 9th month - 36 weeks) that women are usually prohibited from flying. This is because after 36 weeks, a women can go into labor at any time, and the airplane is not made to handle such situations. For one, there is no guarantee that a doctor will be on board a plane, plus, should any complications arise during the labor and delivery, the plane does not have the medical equipment to handle such situations and it could put the health of the mother and child in danger.

You need to get a check-up from your doctor to make sure that you are in fit enough health, and that the pregnancy is healthy enough to allow for you to fly. Many airlines will require a medical certificate from your doctor dated 24-72 hours before your flight once you reach your third trimester (27 weeks). By the time you reach your eighth month (32 weeks) almost all airlines will require a doctors note.

All airlines make up their own rules and regulations regarding pregnant women. Some do not restrict travel at all, no matter what stage of pregnancy a women is in, and others start to restrict at 7 months, although the majority restrict around 36 weeks.

FAA Airline regulations state (I'm including this since you are traveling to the US):

Obstetrical patients are free to fly, but pose a significant risk in later stages of precipitating delivery during flight. Pregnancy past 32 weeks should be carefully considered for restriction from flight and must be accompanied with an authorization from a doctor. Those past 36 weeks should be prohibited from flying unless personally accompanied by their doctor. (Taken from my husbands flight security and survival manual & FAA site)

http://www.faa.gov/other_visit/aviation_industry/designees_delegations/designee_types/ame/media/Section%20II.7.1%20Transportation%20of%20Patients%20by%20Airline.doc

While traveling I advise you to keep your medical records, and the name and number of your doctor. You should also get the name and number of a doctor where you will be staying/visiting in case an emergency comes up.

To keep yourself safe and comfortable on the trip, follow these simple things:

*drink plenty of water
*avoid caffeine
*don't eat food that causes gas for at least one day before you travel (pressure builds up as you ascend through the altitudes and could cause pain)
*walk around as much as you can (up and down the aisles)
*stretch while sitting
*wear loose fitting clothing
*wear slip on shoes (your feet may swell)
*wear maternity support pantyhose or socks
*try to get an aisle seat or a front row seat for more leg room
*eat light foods
*eat small meals or snacks at frequent intervals rather than big heavy meals
*do not eat salt
*Wear your seat belt just under your abdomen (depending on how big you are, you can also ask for a seat belt extender - just be sure that that too goes under your abdomen)

I traveled internationally (14+ hours each way) this past summer while pregnant. I left when I was 13 weeks and returned when I was around 30 weeks. I also did another short (3 hours each way) international trip (left at 32 weeks and returned at 34 weeks). My daughter was born 23 December and is perfectly healthy and happy. I have also traveled internationally at various stages with my first two pregnancies (my children are now 8&5).

I wrote an article about traveling while pregnant. It gives more in-depth information if you'd like to reference it: http://jamiehassen79.angelfire.com/pregnant_travel.html

Things to cook and freeze before baby comes?

I'm not due until February but with my first pregnancy I figured I'd still have time to cook and take car of a newborn so I did NO preparation - big mistake!! LOL Now I'm going to have a toddler and a newborn so I definitley need some ideas. So I'd like some ideas of what I can cook in advance and freeze. I want to know now so I can try a new thing out every week and get the recipe right and then figure out what we like to eat too lol.. any suggestions would be helpful thanks!!

Also, I know people say casseroles freeze well but I don't thin I've ever eaten a casserole - what's in them?! LOL

One of the things I made was quiche lorraine, really easy, and freezes so well!
4 eggs
300ml double cream
4-6 slices of bacon
9"pastry case, baked
salt, pepper to season

Fry up the bacon, scatter into the bottom of the pastry case
Beat the eggs, cream and seasoning together and pour into the case over the bacon.
Bake the quiche at 180degC for about 40 mins until the top is golden brown and the quiche is set.

A quiche is great to experiment with, there's all kinds of things you can throw in there. I throw some cheese and rosemary into mine. The rosemary complements the quiche well and the cheese gives is a nice, gooey texture! Occasionally, I'll fry some finely chopped onion with the bacon, that's really good too.

A casserole is meat, vegetables and a gravy, similar to a stew. Actually, a stew freezes well too, and is very warming and nutritious during those cold winter months! And they're easy, just throw diced beef, stock and a pot full of your favourite veggies together and simmer until the meat is tender and the veggies are cooked through.
