ok so i know progesterone stops ovulation. do they stop the follicles maturing as well? as in your ovaries shut down and stop producing hormones for 9 months? thanks!

The main hormones behind ovulation stopping at the start of pregnancy are estrogen and progesterone. Usually after a mature follicle has released the ovum, the remnants (corpus luteum) will keep the hormone level up. This keeps the endometrial lining intact and the levels of estrogen inhibit other hormones (LH, FSH, GnRH). Inhibiting FSH (Follicle stimulating hormone) prevents the initial development of the follicles, LH (Lutenizing hormone) of ovulation. To top it all off, inhibition of Gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) will prevent release of LH and FSH anyways. So the inhibition of these hormones during pregnancy does stop any follicles from maturing.

The progesterone and estrogen, then, will not be produced by the ovaries. Instead, after the corpus luteum can no longer be maintained, these 2 hormones will be produced by the placenta.

Pregnant && no appetite.?

I'm currently in my first trimester, and I know everyone is different, but I can't eat at all. I have had nausea, but haven't actually thrown up, but the thought of food puts me pretty close. Its not that I can't keep it down or can't stomach it, its more like I'm constantly full and just don't get hungry. I've been trying to force myself to eat, (small salads, made a fruit smoothie with apples, bannanas, and carrots) but i can't force myself to eat four or five times a day && over the last few days I haven't eaten nearly enough, not even enough for one meal. Ive tried to nibble on crackers, but ive always hated them, and i especially hate them now. I am constantly thirsty, however, and am drinking water like crazy. I know lack of appetite can be normal, but is there ANYTHING I can do??? please, any advice would be great.

Try and eat small things like a slice of cheese, 1/2 an apple.

My doctor told me not to worry, he said you have enough in your body that the baby will be able to live despite your sever nausea, even if you're not eating as much as you should.

I also found times of the day I could typically eat [for me it was 11-2 pm] and would eat a really healthy and decent sized meal, knowing I wouldn't be able to eat dinner anyway.

And at about 17 weeks, I can't get enough food. and I get sick now when I DON'T eat..

I lost 15lbs total during the first trimester.

My best advice is, this too shall pass. Thats what I told myself. I got so discouraged at one point from being sick. But believe me... it gets much better.
