Our obstetrician has recommended we "expect" to have a cesarean delivery. I would like to try for vaginal delivery as this is our first pregnancy and I'd like to give my body a chance to do what it's made to do. The twins are in 2 separate sacs (making the odds for Vag deliv. safer).
My partner and I have agreed that at the first sign of fetal distress we should go with a cesarean for safety of the babies.

Ask your OB how many sets of twins he has delivered vaginally. If the answer is a few, or none, I'd strongly suggest talking to a midwife experienced in delivering twins, if you want a vaginal birth. Most OB's these days have no experience delivering multiples or breech births (and one twin will likely be transverse or breech at the time of delivery!)
Don't be shy about changing care providers until you find one that clicks. My last client changed doctors four days before she delivered. If she hadn't , she'd almost certainly ended up with a c-section for "failure to progress."
