Motherhood and Postnatal Depression (Hardcover)

Motherhood and Postnatal Depression (Hardcover)

$123.84

Globally, postnatal depression (PND) is a growing public health problem. PND affects 10 to 15% of women in Western society. It caused by a combination of biological, psychological and social factors. Two models have attempted to define and explain PND; the biomedical and the sociological models. The traditional biomedical model views PND as a medical condition which implies there is individual pathology and abnormality. Whilst the biomedical model has been the dominant model in treating PND, it has been criticized by feminist sociologists and psychologists for its rigidity in defining and explaining PND. In contrast, the psychosocial model of health acknowledges the biological factors that impact on emotional well-being, but places more emphasis on the personal and social factors that impact on emotional well-being, but places more emphasis on the personal and social factors that contribute to depressive symptoms such as gender, poverty, social disadvantage and social class. The central argument throughout this book is the importance of support before and after the birth for women`s emotional well-being. This book will also include women`s journeys through pregnancy, childbirth, motherhood, postnatal depression, and resolution. To date, literature has focused on women`s lived experiences of PND rather than their personal journeys through pregnancy, childbirth and early motherhood. Additionally, the adjustment to fatherhood has received less attention. For example, little is known about the impact of postnatal depression on the partner, what support partners offer when women with the intention to fill the gap in knowledge of cultural and social issues relating to pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood for woman who were diagnosed with, and had resolved, PND.

I`m Pregnant... Now What? (Paperback)

$20.49

We have been where you are. Our book comes out of experience. This book has been written by people who know what you are confronting. If you are reading this, you are full of questions for which you have few if any, answers. People may be giving you answers, but they don`t really know your questions and don`t seem to be listening to you. You are under a great amount of stress and pressure. You may be alone in your dilemma with no support from those who made you promises. You feel rejected and betrayed. You are hurt and angry. We understand those feelings. It is our desire to address your needs factually and to encourage you. We will examine the issues involved from all sides and give you the best information available so you can make a decision with which you can live.

So...what makes you want to post remarks on teen pregnancy topics?

I just posted a fake question on here saying I was 16 and pregnant. I received up to 8 answers.
My normal posts I only get around 3.

What makes you answer teen pregnancy questions?

Do you just feel bad for them?
Do you just get off on telling them unbelievably mean things?

I like being a b***h it makes me happy lol

but I think the reason it gets so many answers besides rude ones is because all these women have kids and are adults (for the most part) so they feel like they can offer guidance to the little ones who are pregnant

What are some non-gas-causing, vegetarian foods?

I have IBS (as an accessory to fibromyalgia). Several times a year, I suffer from 1-2 weeks of severe bloating, gas, cramps, and constipation--during which, I'm miserable and I look like I'm five months pregnant. I started a vegetarian lifestyle several months ago, and I'm having my first big IBS attack since. I NEED to take fiber to keep things moving, and I know that's more than likely going to cause some gas. I want to know which foods I CAN eat, since a lot of the things that work well for me, as a veg, are gas-causers (e.g. beans, soy, broccoli, etc.) and that's the last thing I need. It's beginning to feel like I can't eat a balanced diet without making my IBS way worse. =( I'm pretty new to the whole veg scene, too, so I don't have a lot of ideas for protein, other than beans and soy. Don't know what to eat, hungry, and uncomfortable. =(

P.S. not vegan, just vegetarian

Pregnancy lollipops?

Has anyone used these for nausea? Did they work?

No,,,they did not work. Read the ingredients. It's pure cornstarch and sugar in them. Save yourself the money and buy regular suckers at the store...it would be the same thing except they don't have the "unique" flavors like ginger or lemon. But other than the difference of flavor...they are the exact same ingredients as regular lollipops! Hang in there...it's tough when you are sick like that...I know-I was desperate and would have tried anything to make myself feel better. Good luck!

Nausea

Nausea

$51.97

Nausea is a complex sensation that results from the interaction of certain fixed biological factors, such as gender, with changeable psychological factors, such as anxiety. This is the first book to provide a complete, in-depth explanation of what we know about nausea, along with the latest research results on its causes and treatment. As it is the product of long-term collaboration between scientists from the three main approaches to studying and treating nausea--psychology, gastroenterology, and physiology--the information this book provides is both comprehensive and well integrated. The book is divided into two parts, on mechanisms and management, respectively, and four sections. The chapters in Section I introduce the concept of nausea as a protective control mechanism with individual dynamic thresholds, explain the function of nausea, review past and present conceptions of nausea, and describe the prevalence of nausea in different conditions. Section II includes four basic chapters that review what is known about the physiological bases of nausea. Other chapters explore the roles of the central nervous system, autonomic nervous system, endocrine system, and gastric dysrhythmias. Section III presents the difficult problem of measuring nausea, with chapters focusing on measuring nausea in humans and studying it in animals. Section IV forms the second part of the book, on the management of nausea. The main chapters cover nausea and its treatment in several conditions, including chronic nausea, diabetes, pregnancy, post-operative, cancer and its treatment, and provocative motion. A final chapter discusses future research, including three preliminary studies of novel treatment approaches.

Adoption and Surrogate Pregnancy (Hardcover)

Adoption and Surrogate Pregnancy (Hardcover)

$41.75

Adoption and surrogate pregnancy are the two most realistic options currently available for millions of couples unable to have biological children. In the past decade, international adoption has become popular among those who wish to avoid the wait associated with adopting domestically. Yet because of unique political, economic, and cultural circumstances within individual countries, international adoption is fraught with legal controversies and difficulties. Surrogate pregnancy is a relatively new and inherently complicated alternative. With few regulations to guide the process and protect those involved, however, countries struggle to address its ethical and moral questions, in addition to the legal, political, cultural, and environmental ramifications.Providing a historic overview and defining the key issues, Adoption and Surrogate Pregnancy examines the laws related to adoption and surrogate pregnancy in five countries: the United States, China, India, the United Kingdom, and Guatemala. The discussion covers the ways in which adoption and surrogate pregnancy overlap and influence each other, the nuances that further complicate matters, and the controversies surrounding both issues—such as fears of exploitation, class discrimination, socially "unwanted" children, same-sex parenthood, and the difficulties of governing the family unit. Allowing students to compare the subjects from the perspectives of different countries and cultures, this balanced and objective volume sheds light on the way these issues affect the global community.

34 weeks pregnant very low iron?

I'm 34 weeks pregnant and my iron levels have been low the entire pregnancy. I took iron pills & ate foods loaded with iron and nothing helps. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2001 which is why my body just doesn't absorb it like other people. Well, since becoming pregnant it has gotten very very low. I was given IV iron for weeks 26-30. It helped a little, but not very much at all. I am starting to get the rapid heart beat & having a lot of trouble breathing, which I was just told could be my iron getting low again. It actually hurts in my chest. What are the affects of low iron to myself? I know the baby will just take everything he needs, so he will be fine. But how can it affect ME? Would my doc induce because of it?
It's caused me to become severely anemic & I feel like I'm constantly going to pass out. Even when sitting still. I barely get the energy to crawl out of bed. And my B12 levels have become extremely low.

They may decide to induce but probably not until after 37 or 38 weeks, they want to make sure your baby's lungs are mature. Talk to your doctor about everything though.

i'm in my second trimester, but i can't really picture myself having this baby... i don't know what it is, I've been pregnant and have a baby, I was super excited about that pregnancy, and always dreamed about having the baby and couldn't stop thinking about names and everything... now with this pregnancy i just cant even picture having the baby i dont even feel pregnant... is this normal, or did most people feel this way when the pregnancy ended in miscarriage?

I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks the first time I was pregnant. I never felt any pre-warning. I was excited about my pregnancy. One day, I started getting REALLY heavy bleeding. And I thought, "This isn't normal", but still didn't even think I was miscarrying. I went to the emergency room as I hadn't even been to my first OB appointment yet... turned out, I was miscarrying. I was devestated.

Luckily, I got pregnant again a year later. I was blessed with a little girl who is now 2 1/2 months old! =) I worried all the time that I'd lose her. It wasn't until my first ultrasound at 20 weeks that my nerves started calming down some. Seeing her suck her finger while floating in my belly just eased the weight of the world a bit.
