All cardiologists will be called on to assess and manage pregnant women, however the majority have had little or no training in the subject. In the same way, obstetricians assess women with cardiac conditions, and therefore require the knowledge to both refer patients with heart disease as well as to manage them through the pregnancy. However a recent enquiry into maternal deaths has highlighted that morbidity and mortality of women with heart disease in pregnancy has continued to increase over the last 15 years and substandard care has been identified in 40% of cases. Recommendations have been made that women with, or at risk of, heart disease are screened and counselled on the appropriate risks of undergoing a pregnancy, and as a result all physicians involved need a good understanding of the subject and access to the relevant information. A concise handbook written for cardiology and obstetric trainees and consultants, as well as specialist nurses and midwives, Heart Disease in Pregnancy provides a detailed introduction to the physiological changes of pregnancy and gives practical advice on the management of women with heart disease who are pregnant or who are considering pregnancy. It also provides the relevant obstetric knowledge and processes needed for a cardiologist to successfully manage a pregnant woman.

my dog might be pregnant...i want to know when she is going to give birth is the male dog aloud to be with her?
and i also want to know are we aloud to touch the babys becuase my friend told me if you touch them she will kill the puppiess.
Please talk to a vet.
- no male dog
- it's fine to touch the puppies. She should lick them to get the amniotic sac off them and let them breathe. You can step in and help them breathe (slap and rub vigorously).
If it's more than 30 minutes between pups, go to a vet.
Is she a large-headed breed? If so, a c-section might be necessary, as she might not be able to get those heads through.
Why not just go to a vet and let her whelp in a room there? If anything bad happens, you have medical assistance right there.
Please spay your dog!
The Pregnant Man | Pregnant Man Gives Birth | Channel 4
Using the one-act comedy El parto de Juan Rana (John Frog Gives Birth) as a point of departure, Velasco argues that the figure of the pregnant man in early modern Spanish culture was not merely comic entertainment, but also served an important role as a physical representation of the anxieties about the changing roles of men and women at the time.Men were increasingly taking over medical duties--e...
Life Before Birth provides a coherent framework for addressing bioethical issues in which the moral status of embryos and fetuses is relevant. It is based on the "interest view" which ascribes moral standing to beings with interests, and connects the possession of interests with the capacity for conscious awareness or sentience. The theoretical framework is applied to ethical and legal topics, including abortion, prenatal torts, wrongful life, the crime of feticide, substance abuse by pregnant women, compulsory cesareans, assisted reproduction, and stem cell research. Along the way, difficult philosophical problems, such as identity and the non-identity problem are thoroughly explored. The book will be of interest not only to philosophers, but also physicians, lawyers, policy makers, and anyone perplexed by the many difficulties surrounding the unborn."Bonnie Steinbock`s excellent book is . . . consistent, thoroughgoing, and intelligible." --Nature"Steinbock`s book is valuable for all interested in the ethical/legal issues surrounding abortion, prenatal injury and liability, maternal-fetal conflict, and fetal/embryo research. The author provides an excellent historical overview of these issues, but she also addresses the issues from the stance of a particular theory of moral status, namely, interest theory. This gives coherence to her discussion as well as allowing testing of the viability of interest theory." --Choice"A focused, lucid, analytically fine-grained discussion of a wide variety of problems. . . extremely useful as a survey of the current state of the debate." --Religious Studies Review"Merits serious consideration by physicians. Steinbock`s interests-based approach treats all questions as open -- another and most welcome breath of fresh air." -New England Journal of Medicine"An extremely valuable contribution to the literature. The author carefully identifies the many bioethical issues to which the status of e

Asked to locate an eight-months-pregnant missing ballet dancer who is subsequently discovered in the Thames, the apparent victim of suicide, London-based private investigator Hannah Wolfe pursues suspicions that the woman may have been murdered instead.
Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, whose landmark documentary THE BUSINESS OF BEING BORN challenged how people think about birth, have created a guide to help pregnant women make informed decisions about how and where they want to give birth. No matter where a woman feels most comfortable having her baby, whether in the hospital, at home, or a birth center, she will face a series of decisions that can be confusing and overwhelming. Lake and Epstein have boiled down the many alternatives into an easily followed guide that includes discussions as diverse as choosing an obstetrician or a midwife, having a doula, and the positives and negatives of epidurals. Pregnant women will come away fully informed and empowered. With resources.
Different from the traditional obstetrics and gynecology textbooks which only offer a cursory view of complicated obstetrics and fetal medicine, A Guide to Complex Pregnancy Management fills the wide gap of knowledge in this field by covering the most complex obstetrical conditions that are often encountered. Specially written for medical students, this book aims to prepare students to fully participate in the complex environment of university obstetrical services. It will serve as an adjunct to general text for students undergoing student clerkships, and as a comprehensive text and reference source for those taking electives and sub-internships. In addition, general obstetricians not specializing in complex pregnancy management could also benefit from this book as a reference source for management of patients.
Pontotoc County, located in South Central Oklahoma, is one of the smaller counties in the state. The word pontotoc roughly translates to a Native American phrase meaning "cattails growing on the prairie." Dotted with many communities, some booming and others slowly disappearing, Pontotoc County is rich with history. This county was the epitome of the Old West at its most raw and dangerous. Pontotoc`s lowest moment came on April 19, 1909, when a band of unknown Ada citizens made one of the most infamous decisions in American history and hanged four men without a trial. The modern consensus is that Ada, the county seat, became the horizon on which the sunset of the Old West was witnessed. Today, Pontotoc County is home to the Robert S. Kerr Environmental Research Center, thecorporate headquarters of Pre-Paid Legal Services, Holcim Inc., Tornado Alley Turbo, and the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters. This thriving county has much to offer--not only to the United States, but also to the world.

i'm 17.5 weeks pregnant and it seems like the baby won't stop kicking... day and night. i know it sounds like i'm overexaggerating; but i'm not. its not really a soft type of kick either; it feels like my baby is trying to beat up the inside of me haha. i try to move around to different positions so maybe it will stop but it doesn't. unfortunately its making me lose sleep too because thats how strong it is. is this happening to anyone else? is it possible to make it stop? its really becoming uncomfortable and really lacking in sleep. any ideas?
ps: this is my first
There really is no solution. It's actually a good thing your baby is kicking well! You may want to watch your sugar intake since sugar tends to stir them up. Maybe mention this to your doctor and see if they can give you some suggestions. I am sorry I can't be of more help...my baby seems to have a distinctive awake/sleep pattern already and his awake times are when I want to sleep the most LOL so I know how you feel!

Are there different symptoms of pregnancy when having twins? ?
I have been SOOOO sick this pregnancy (not the usual sickness I had with my other children). I know each pregnancy is different, but I am starting to wonder if this pregnancy could be VERY different----maybe twins? So....for those of you who have had both-----do you have different symptoms when you are pregnant with twins than with your other children? I am 8 weeks and so size is not a huge indicator------anyhow-----any help please?
I was really sick when pregnant with my son (main memory is sitting on the bathroom floor and the smell of air fresheners as there didn't seem much moving away from the toilet!) I was sick with my first daughter and also with my twins, but nowhere near as much. The main difference with the twins was size, not in the beginning, but from about 20 weeks onwards I was the size of a whale.
